Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to become familiar with diagnostics, treatments, and nursing aspects of selected surgical illnesses and injuries.
|
Requirements on student
|
Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test. Submission of a seminar thesis. Compliance with a written test.

Content
|
Introduction to surgery. Division of surgery, special features of nursing care in individual surgical subspecialties, surgical nursing documentation, case history, and clinical examination. Infections associated with staying in and defending against medical facilities, nursing process as a defense against them, ATB regimes in surgical wards, regimen in operating rooms. Principles of post-operative monitoring, post-operative care, and post-operative complications and their management. Head and neck surgery. Chest surgery. Abdominal surgery. Laparoscopic surgery, advantages, possibilities, principles, video shoots, and care of patients after laparoscopic procedures. Cardiac surgery and vascular surgery. Paediatric surgery.
