Course objectives:
|
The goal of the course is to acquaint students with the construction and operation of aircraft propellers according to current applicable requirements, especially according to the EU 1321/2014, Part M, Part 145, and Part 147.

Requirements on student
|
The condition for participation in the exam is to obtain the credit. This condition is for full-time form of study. The credit confirms that the student participated in the required range and that he / she met the requirements that are conditional on the credit granting. The conditions for granting the credit are determined by the teacher in the first week of the lecture period of the semester. The exam for the full-time form of study is determined in accordance with the UPa Study and Examination Regulations.

Content
|
The content of the subject is in accordance with the requirements of EU regulation No. 1321/2014, Part 66, Module 17.
1. Definition of basic terms - propeller blade theory, aerodynamic characteristics.
2. Loading of propeller blades - aerodynamic, mass forces, vibrations.
3. Materials and technologies for the production of each propeller component.
4. Types of propeller structures - division, advantages, limitations, operational usage.
5. Theory of adjustable blades - aerodynamic meaning, propulsion efficiency, operational usage.
6. Construction of adjustable mechanisms - technical solutions for controlling the angle of adjustable propeller blades.
7. Noise and synchronization of propellers - speed synchronization.
8. Noise and synchronization of propellers - phase synchronization and technical solutions of synchronization.
9. Protection against icing - chemical protection of propeller blades, technical design and operating restrictions.
10. Protection against icing - electrical de-icing system, technical design and operating restrictions.
11. Propeller maintenance - diagnostics of possible defects, operating procedures, repairs, conservation.
12. Propeller maintenance - repairs of propeller blades, hubs, systems of adjustable mechanisms and accessories.
13. Legislative requirements and continuing airworthiness of propellers, recurring lecture, future concepts of propellers and propeller drives.

The knowledge of the subject Air Transport is needed. Basic knowledge of flight mechanics and the principle of aircraft propulsion operation is advantage. |
Competences acquired |
After completing the subject, the student will understand and will be able to apply knowledge in the field of aircraft propeller propulsion. The course is a benefit especially for students focusing on piloting and aircraft maintenance. |
