Content

1. week Color, human eye, , lidské oko, color theory substances, color perception, color vision deficiency and their assessment, practical exercises
2. week: Spectral and complementary colors, additive and subtractive color mixing, the relationship of the chemical constitution and color. Hyper vs. hypo shifts, Bath vs. hypso shifts, absorption and reflectance curves
3. week: Catalogization systems of color, monochord, I. Newton, T. Mayer, Munsell´s color system, system NCS, Pantone, Ral
4. week: Visual triplet, color temperature, instruments for measuring color, colorimeters, spectrophotometers, measurement geometry, surface material effect on the color, reflectance curves standardization on black and white reflectance standard, practical exercises
5. week: Color systems, Young-Helmholtz trichromatic theory, Hering, Adams. Standard Observer, Wright-Guild´s experiment
6. week: The RGB, CMYK, color gamut. Color spaces, sRGB, Adobe RGB, transformation of reflectance curves into trichromatic values of CIE XYZ, chromaticity diagram of x, y and Y, influence of the light source and the sensitivity of the eye, color difference
7. week: CIE Lab, L *, a *, b *, CIE HSV, practical exercises
8. week: Color differences, conditions of evaluation, usage. Comparison between different color spaces (x, y, Y; L a b) color difference E, Color difference H, system CMC (l:C), CIE DE200, practical exercises
9. week: Metamerism, definitions, metamerism of lighting, fluorescence, methods for objective measurement of the degree of whiteness, yellowness measurement, opacity, measuring of color fastness using gray scale, color fastness to light using a blue scale, practical measurement and evaluation
10. week: Complex color models, chromatic adaptation, J. v. Kries, CIE CAM 02
11. week: Evaluation of amount of the dyestuff in solution or on a transparent sheet, Lambert-Beer law, the absorption spectra, calibration curves, color strength evaluation on material surfaces, the reflectance spectra, the Kubelka-Munk equation, the dependence of K / S values at a concentration of dye, practical measurements

Basic knowledge of physical and organic chemistry and chemistry of dyestuffs. |
Competences acquired |
The student will aquire a basic understanding of color evaluation including practic skills in conjunction with coloristic laboratory tasks. Acquired knowledge will use in industrial color evaluation generally, not only in polymeric materials branch. |
