Course objectives:
The students are acquainted with approaches to solution of more complex engineering problems from the area of hydraulic and heat transfer processes. Emphasis is put on independent solution of selected tasks (projects), exploitation of scientific literature and other auxiliary means, such as specialised chemical-engineering software.
Requirements on student
There is an oral examination. Primary form of exam is the debate about selected themes. Level of acquired knowledge, conceptions and application acquirements is examined. Knowledge is also examined by test and individual projects during semester whose results are included into total classification.
Content
Flow of non-compressible Newtonian fluid through pipe, Solution of more complex pipeline systems, Flow of compressible fluids (gases), Isothermal and adiabatic flow through pipe, Compression of gases and vapours, Flow of non-Newtonian fluids through pipe, Apparatus for transport of fluids (pumps, compressors, vacuum pumps), Fluidization, Sedimentation (Kynch theory), Filtration (surface, volume filtrations), Stirring/ mixing of heterogeneous systems, Heat transmission by radiation, Complex calculations of heat exchangers and multi-member evaporators, Rationalisation of heat consumption in chemical-engineering operations (evaporators, rectification columns), Exploitation of standard software products in engineering calculations and design, Specialised chemical-engineering software, Individual projects assigned to students.
