Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the history of visual arts from prehistoric times to the 21st century. The students will thus acquire a basic orientation in the main European styles and their specific forms manifested in "Czech" art. Individual lecture blocks will then be gradually devoted to the art of ancient civilizations (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, the early Christian era), the Middle Ages (pre-Romanesque art, Romanesque style, Gothic), Renaissance and Mannerism, Baroque and art of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as art forms of our time. Emphasis is placed on the art of the Central European area, especially the Czech Lands, with regard to the complex historical contexts influencing the development of artistic styles.
|
