Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to increase the level of knowledge and skills of students in key areas of high school mathematics and linear algebra, which are necessary for the study of economics and other subjects.

Requirements on student
|
1) Attend the seminars according to the regulations of FES.
2) Complete assigned homework.

Content
|
Basics of set theory and mathematical logic.
Sequences of real numbers.
Functions of a real variable, properties, inverse functions, graphs.
Simple elementary functions and their properties.
Equations and inequalities.
Vectors and vector spaces.
Matrices, operations with matrices.
Determinant of a matrix, basic properties, methods of calculation.
Inverse matrices, methods of calculation.
Systems of linear equations.

Basic knowledge of high school mathematics. |
Competences acquired |
A student who has successfully completed the course is able
to describe sequences and elementary functions of a single variable and their properties;
to explain basics of linear algebra, arithmetic vectors, matrices and determinants;
to distinguish and understand permutations, variations and combinations with and without repetition.
A student who has successfully completed the course is able
to identify and draw graphs of simplest elementary functions;
to calculate with vectors and matrices;
to determine linearly dependent and independent vectors;
to know elementary operations with matrices, to find the rank and inverse of a matrix;
to find determinants of the 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 matrices;
to apply Gaussian elimination method and Cramer´s rule to solve a systém of linear equations.
A student who has successfully completed the course is able
to understand basics of high school mathematics and linear algebra.
