Course objectives:
The aim of the course is to improve perceptual and analytical skills in reading Czech and English professional texts and to improve expressive skills in written expression in the Czech language. The course creates strengthens the ability to reflect written language resources. They will acquire the ability to logically structure a text, consolidate the stylistics of professional expression and learn to cite and prevent plagiarism. Students will increase their level of understanding of anthropological texts written in English, expand their vocabulary and alleviate the fear of reading foreign language texts. The course is divided into two thematic seminars - the first improves the ability to read Czech text and strengthens academic skills (formerly Academic Reading and Writing), the second is the ability to understand professional English texts (formerly Reading English Texts).
Requirements on student
Regular participation is required (maximum 2 absences) active participation in the class. Passing all tests (continuous and final). If online teaching is to be introduced, continuous assessment from online seminars on Microsoft Teams will be further strengthened, and submission of seminar works will be introduced. Some of the tests may be omitted or be just trials without mark.
Subsequently, a grade is obtained from the test of academic reading and writing and English texts reading by doing an average of the two marks. However, it is necessary to get at least grade E from both subjects. It is not possible to pass one of the courses and then request a mark average.
