Course objectives:
|
The subject gives more detailed insight into the problems of ancient literature, especially into Grecian literature. In the course of the seminar, notable Grecian writers and their main work will be introduced to the students. The students will be acquainted with the atmosphere of the period the writers lived and worked in; the attention will be paid mainly to the generally less well-known works whose contents and style will be presented to the students through the text analysis.

Requirements on student
|
Participation in seminars (3 unexcused absences at the most), reading and the analysis of two works of the recommended literature within a final interview, a final interview about the given topic.

Topics:
Cultural resources, general characterization and periodization of ancient Greek literature
Archaic period: Illiad and Odyssey, didactic epic poetry of Hesiodos, lyric poetry - Alkaios, Anakreón, Sapfó
Classical period: the origin od Greec drama - Aischylos, Sofoklés, Eurípidés; the origin of Greek comedy - Aristofanés
Hellenic period: new poetry - Kallimachos; new comedy - Menandros
Roman period: dialogue and satire - Lúkiános
