Course objectives:
|
The course AIM is composed of 4 individual courses, varied in time frames and credits (AIM 1, AIM 2., AIM 3, and AIM 4). The courses may be combined, but each course can be signed up only once! Maximum hourly dotation of clinical placement in AIM is 320h.
The aim of the course is to gain experience from the clinical practice, which will enable the student to perceive cultural differences in meeting the needs of women, pregnant women and newborn infants.

Requirements on student
|
The exam is based on a confirmed 100% attendance at the internship lectures and on the placements, a written reflection by the student, and a presentation of two case studies.

Content
|
40 h of practicum + 4 h self-study Before the clinical placement, student will be expected to confirm that he/she understands and is capable of professional conduct and is willing to conform to the regulations of receiving institution in the Czech Republic. Students will undergo skills lab training to better understand Czech hospital practical skill requirements; this will be organized by the Faculty prior to the clinical placements.
General content of the individual internship course: Procedures in midwifery in the Czech Republic. Becoming familiar with the system of primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Becoming familiar with regulations and standards on their placements Applying midwifery and nursing skills into care of healthy and ill women, pregnant women and newborn infants. Midwifery - reflection.
During the course the student will attend regular meetings, once every two weeks and present an interesting case report or practice experience that brought opportunity for discussion and reflection.

Students will complete his/her internship on placements that correspond with their specialization, they will learn about the health care system in the Czech Republic,they will become acquainted with standards and regulations regarding the provision of midwifery care, and will be able to assess and critically evaluate cultural similarities and differences in midwifery practice. |
