Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the main subjects and contentious issues within contemporary political philosophy. The students will read few of key texts for every studied topic, which will be discussed in the course for at least two weeks. This will provide them with the basic orientation within the discipline.
The subjects will include the following:
1) Theories of freedom in contemporary political philosophy
2) Equality and its many facets
3) Value pluralism, political pluralism and toleration
4) Cosmopolitism and global justice
5) Feminism
6) Nationalism and identity politics

Requirements on student
|
The students will be required to read the assigned literature and produce a short summary of it (cca 150 words) before every seminar. At the end of the semester, students will produces a short argumentative essay (1000-1500 words) defending a philosophical position of their choice.
