An introduction into solid state physics for chemists covers simple basic ideas and models of the classical solid state physics related to semiconducting properties and materials namely. The lectures are focused on the following problems: Symmetry, cohesive forces in solids, single crystal-lattice symmetry-X-ray diffraction, harmonic lattice vibrations, heat capacity, energy band model of metals-Fermi level-density of states, band model of simple semiconductor-chemists point of view, point defects, statistics of free current carriers, Hall effect, mobility, dc electrical conductivity, thermoelectric effect, P-N junction, ionic conductivity, F and V centres, optical properties of semiconductors namely, refractive index, optical transmission and reflection - optical band gap, plasma resonance edge, photoelectric effect, laser.
