Course content
Institutional economics. Institutions in economy and economics. Institutional change and evolution of institutions. Institutional essentials of market economy. Quality of institutions - evaluation and quantification. Theory of transaction costs. Property rights. Contracts and economy's legal framework. Influence of informal institutions over the economic development. Ethical dimension of institutions. Economic approach to policy. Theory of rent seeking, corruption and lobbing. Institutional changes and transformation of the Czech economy.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to deepen and extend the knowledge of economic theory by the institutional view of the economic reality. The course results from the neo-institutional approach in economic thinking of which basic methodological fundament is the integration of other socio-scientific disciplines (politics, law, ethics, history, sociology) into the complex of economic analyses.
Students will understand causes of the origin, development and content of key theories of the institutional economics, they will be able to compare alternative theories with the theory of "mainstream" economic thinking and understand methodological differences, its causes and reflex in the economic-political practice.
