Course content
|
New approaches in basic and advanced life support. Aids and devices in advanced life support. Pharmacotherapy and electrical therapy for advanced life support. Alternative stabilization of the airways. Post-resuscitation client care. Organization of stabilization of the critically ill client. Polytrauma in intensive care. Invasive devices. Stabilizing the airways in intensive care. Non-invasive x invasive ventilation, unconventional ventilation. Disorders of consciousness, scoring systems. Shock from the perspective of the anaesthesiologist. SIRS, sepsis. Multiple organ failure - prevention, diagnostics, and therapy. Monitoring of critically ill patients in intensive care - haemodynamics, ICP, IAP. Elimination methods. Nutrition in critically ill patients. Ethical principles in intensive care. Legal liability in departments of anaesthesia and resuscitation (ARO). Prevention of malpractice. Transplantation medicine, care of organ donors. Admission of the critically ill client - the procedure used to stabilize him or her. Organization of nursing care in the ARO. Aids for airway stabilization - in anaesthesia as well as in resuscitation care. Ventilators. Arterial and central venous system cannulation, care of invasive devices. Monitoring in the ARO (haemodynamics, ICP, IAP). CRRT. Resuscitation beds, care of the airways (inhalation, irrigation, suction). Pain clinic - practice.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to deepen theoretical and practical knowledge of the given field. The emphasis is on the issue of resuscitation and care of critically ill clients.
The student knows the principles of admission of the critically ill client, organization of nursing care in the department of anaesthesia and resuscitation, principles of securement of respiratory pathways, principles of monitoring and ventilation of the critically ill. The student is well-versed in the issue of legal responsibilities in departments of anaesthesia and resuscitation. The student performs nursing care of critically ill patients.

Student performance assessment
Completion of compulsory 60% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of a written test. Successful completion of an oral examination.
