Course content
Psychotherapeutic approaches and schools. History and current trends in psychotherapy - basic characteristics. General issues in psychotherapy. Definition, characteristics, and goals of psychotherapy. Indications for psychotherapy. Psychotherapy in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Efficacious factors in psychotherapy. Therapeutic relationship and work alliance. The process of change in psychotherapy. The psychotherapeutic process and completion of treatment. Ethics in psychotherapy. Training in psychotherapy. Methods of psychotherapy. Basic characteristics, possibilities in using psychotherapeutic methods. Psychotherapy in treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation. Special features of psychotherapy and its main methods and means for children and youth, psychotherapy for seniors. Psychotherapeutic first aid and crisis intervention. Methods of psychotherapy in non-specific primary prevention. Psychotherapy and personality development.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the main psychotherapeutic systems and schools, general issues of psychotherapy, options for the use of selected psychotherapeutic methods and techniques in the comprehensive care of patients (clients) with an emphasis on the possibilities of prophylaxis, therapy, and rehabilitation.

Prerequisites
The student is able to impart elementary group-work experience based on humanistic and cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy with an emphasis on its possible application in practice. Furthermore, to develop basic skills necessary for a more efficient use of the psychotherapeutic level of the health care worker-patient relationship.
