Course content
The origins of Czech nursing, guardianship, the history of infirmaries, reforms in the enlightenment period. The influence of wars on the development of nursing in our country in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Czech nursing in the 20th century. Nursing training: past and present. The concept of current Czech nursing, legal provisions, current status, changes, and perspectives on the future. Ensuring quality care in nursing. Evidence-based practice. Nursing documentation, related legal regulations, and nursing terminology.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to build on knowledge gained during the bachelor study, to deepen and develop it. The course focuses in a more detailed way on the historical development of nursing and nursing education in the Czech Republic.
The student learns about a broader range of personalities who are credited for the development of nursing throughout history and at the present time. Based on a deeper knowledge of the nursing history, he/she is able to better understand the present time and future prospects in this field. He/she is able to critically evaluate and to formulate an opinion of nursing as a scientific and practical discipline.

Assessment methods and criteria
Home assignment evaluation, Didactic test

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Completing assigned written work. Successful completion of a written test.
