Course content
|
The child care system and play therapy (theoretical knowledge). Special characteristics of the child's respiratory tract (physiology and pathophysiology), inhalation therapy. Illnesses of the connective tissue (physiology and pathophysiology). Congenital developmental defects of the gastrointestinal tract. The child's growth (physiology and pathophysiology). Nephrological illnesses in child age with a focus on congenital developmental defects and their early diagnostics. Ultrasound and X-ray examination in paediatrics. Life-threatening conditions in paediatrics. Endocrinological examination in child age. Early asphyxia syndrome and resuscitation of the newborn. Issues in premature newborns. Neurological illnesses in child age.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to expand knowledge in the field of paediatrics. Paediatric medicine issues are complemented by information on economic and organizational questions of the service, and on activities of specialized workplaces (Child Centre in Veska).
The student has knowledge of physiology and pathophysiology of the child's organism as a whole as well as of its parts. Furthermore, he/she knows the psychological approach to sick children and their parents. Moreover, he/she has knowledge of organizational and economic issues.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Student performance assessment
Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Successful completion of an oral examination.
