Course content
What character of God do human rights "require"? The origin and meaning of human rights. Bible and the idea of human rights. Europe, Czech lands, and the idea of human rights. The rights of a human being and a citizen of Genesis. Human rights in connection with theistic and personalistic philosophy. Monistic philosophy does not accept the law of Declaration. The dialectic of human rights according to Karl Marx. Russian political thinking under the influence of European philosophy. Human rights in the twentieth century.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to outline the origins and meaning of human rights in respect to their religious and philosophical roots, to show the conditions from which human rights could have arisen, and to elucidate the importance of democracy for the development and preservation of human rights.
Students will be able to analyse cultural conditioning of the idea of human rights and theological as well as philosophical contexts of development of this idea in theory and practice.

Credit is dependent upon presence at lessons (at least 80% of the time); knowledge of literature covered; a seminar paper (10 pages in length); and a written test.
