The objective of this course is the analysis of the fundamental questions, concepts, and methods of philosophical hermeneutics in the 20th century. The analysis will mostly focus on a study of key hermeneutic concepts of understanding, the interpretation of historical meaning, the hermeneutic circle, tradition and historicity and their methodological meaning for modern historical sciences. Attention will also be paid to analysis of the relationship between explanation and understanding, the relationship between the philosophical grounds of modern natural science and the new expanding humanistic sciences and to the discussions of modern hermeneutics and the analytical philosophy of language.
Students will learn how to understand modern scientific rationality and also, what is the difference between this kind of rationality and that of human sciences in European philosophical tradition. Studetns will be able to see the differneces between foundations of mdoern natural and human sciences.
