Course content
Modern individuality is connected with Descartes? conception of self-certain subject. The problem of the ego cogito is concerned mainly with the problem of knowledge. Following this path, the modern philosophy develops the conception of consciousness based on self-consciousness, i.e. on knowing oneself qua subject. We will focus on this problem loocking at Kant?s conception of the transcendental aperception in his Critique of Pure Reason and disccuss also its reception in philosophy of 20th centure, especially Heidegger?s critical approach to it.

Students will obtain credit if they attend individual and group consultations and if they hand in a four-page text that contains a plan of the work, a detailed segmentation, and a list of literature and other sources, a formulation of a hypothesis or questions, and a description of the methods to be used.
