Práce se zaměřuje na britskou a americkou společnost v druhé polovině devatenáctého století. Je zde rozebírána a porovnávána problematika týkající se třídního systému v obou zemích. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována vyšší třídě a jejímu životnímu stylu, společenskému postavení, genderové příslušnosti či pohledu vládnoucí třídy na striktní viktoriánské normy, morálku a s ní spojenou sexualitu. Způsob života, společenské hodnoty a konvence viktoriánské společnosti jsou prezentovány na dílech Francouzova milenka od Johna Fowlese a Věk nevinnosti od Edith Wharton.

The thesis focuses on the British and American society in the second half of the 19th century. The issues of social classes and hierarchy, development and changes within them as well as the differences between particular classes are analysed and contrasted. Special attention is paid to the upper class’s lifestyle, social status, and gender roles together with the questions of Victorian rules and attitudes towards mores and sexuality. The ideologies of the way of life, social values, conventions and morality of the Victorian society are presented on the novels The French Lieutenant’s Woman and The Age of Innocence by John Fowles and Edith Wharton respectively.

Zásady pro vypracování
Studentka se ve své práci zaměří nejprve na obecné srovnání životního stylu v Anglii a Spojených státech druhé poloviny 19. století. Hlavní těžiště práce však bude spočívat v analýze společenských hodnot obou kultur. Poznatky z této analýzy bude studentka aplikovat na obě zvolená literární díla, tj. The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton a French Lieutenant´s Woman Johna Fowlese.
Ve své bakalářské práci bude studentka pracovat s primárními i sekundárními zdroji a bude využívat především textové a literární analýzy.
Zásady pro vypracování
Studentka se ve své práci zaměří nejprve na obecné srovnání životního stylu v Anglii a Spojených státech druhé poloviny 19. století. Hlavní těžiště práce však bude spočívat v analýze společenských hodnot obou kultur. Poznatky z této analýzy bude studentka aplikovat na obě zvolená literární díla, tj. The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton a French Lieutenant´s Woman Johna Fowlese.
