Course content
Functional sentence perspecitive, communicative dynamism. Hypersyntax. Textuality: cohesion, coherence. Functional styles and text types. Academic writing. Administrative style. Newspaper style. Written and spoken genres. Punctuation.

Learning outcomes
This course intends to activate and supplement knowledge and skills related to the Czech language which will improve the quality of both spoken and written forms of communication. The course predominantly consists of discussing stylistic and textual parameters of authentic texts. The students apply their knowledge of the Czech grammar to identify and evaluate defective texts; moreover, they are trained to modify the grammatical and stylistic features in accordance with communicative functions of a particular text type. The classroom activities involve analysing translated texts to assess the interlinguistic shifts or interferences and to recognize some systemic differences between Czech and English.
The students will get familiar with Czech morphological norm. They will be able to adapt the text according to the comunicational situation. They will become familiar with Czech grammar books and are able to work with them.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Home assignment evaluation, Oral performance analysis

Compulsory attendance. Preparedness and active participation in the seminars. Comprehensive written test including BCKO1 and BCKO2. In case of distance learning: online seminars in MS Teams, activities in Moodle, individual appointments possible.
