Course content
|
Form and function, scope of discourse analysis. Definitions of discourse, approaches to discourse analysis. Discourse analysis and grammar, discourse analysis and vocabulary. Text: coherence and cohesion. Conversational analysis. Aspects of functional sentence perspective. Constructions for highlighting information, extra-posed structures. Syntactic ambiguities. Types of syntactic deviations, discontinuities.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to teach students to understand the English grammatical system in contrast to Czech linguistic situation. Students will be offered theoretical knowledge of discourse analysis and hyper-syntax.
Students will be able to use the knowledge of morphology, syntax and lexicology for the text analysis.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation
active participation (maximum 2 classes can be missed) assignments according to instructions specified in lessons prezentation of the analysis oral exam based on the text analysis, students apply their theoretical knowledge for authentic text analysis.
