The course makes students familiar with the structure, changes and the most notable trends in contemporary German in the field of literary and colloquial vocabulary, variability of the lexical system and the factors influencing its stratification. The contents of the subject are particular characteristics of lexemes, the ways of enriching vocabulary, semantic relations between particular lexical units, changing the meaning depending on the context and the overall analysis of modern German vocabulary. In the seminars, the emphasis is put on working with specific texts. Thus students are encouraged to interpret the German texts with standard and non-standard elements correctly.
Students will actively manage issues of German vocabulary, word formation, words imported from other languages, metaphorics and pharseology. They will correctly interpret authentic German texts with standard and non standard elements. They will be able to characterize lexems, ways of enriching vocabulary, they will understand relationships between separate lexical units in terms of significance and will be capable of general analysis of modern German vocabulary.
