Course content
Search for own identity in literature (Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann). The topic of school in literature (Juli Zeh, Rainer Maria Rilke). Drug issue and its reflection in literature (Judith Hermann). Discrimination and the theme of exclusion in literature (Wolfgang Herrndorf, Judith Hermann). Women's rights and women's identity (eg. women in the military) in literature (Dirk Kurbjuweit, Alina Bronsky, Elfreide Jelinek). Family and generational conflicts in literature (Juli Zeh, Alina Bronsky, Franz Werfel). Berlin metropolis as a topos in the film and novels (Alfred Döblin, Jan Ole Gers). Societal criticism of Thomas Bernhard, Elfriede Jelinek, Günter Grass and others. German literature in relation to Bohemia and Moravia (Franz Grillparzer, Marie Ebner von Eschenbach, Rainer Maria Rilke and others).

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Methods of individual activities
Learning outcomes
The lecture introduces students to the German written literature in the current societal discourse. The attention is paid to the literature of the 20th century. The content of literary seminar covers the topics outlined by the lecture. Seminars are based on the analysis of the texts of selected authors. The aim is to interpret texts with regard to the literary-scientific, historical, sociological, cultural and psychological aspect

German level B2. Successful pass in UDLI.

Active participation in seminars. Paper (topics of papers will be proposed at the beginning of the semester), hand in the form of written essay. List of literature (5 titles of own choice to the topics given).
