Course content
Prejudice, stereotypes, images of the enemy. The typically German. Czech and German cultural standards. Orientation towards people and personnel x material orientation. Respect towards structures x disregard of structures. Simultaneity x consistency. Improvisation x organisation. People-oriented supervision x rule-oriented supervision. Blending of the business and the personal sphere x division of the business and the personal sphere. High context, implicitness, indirectness x low context, explicitness, directness. Avoiding conflicts x mentality of confrontation. Wavering self-confidence x persistent self-confidence.

Learning outcomes
There are compared historical, social, cultural and economic aspects and differences between the Czechs and Germans, or Austrians. The emphasis will be put mainly on different styles of work in the whole intercultural frame of globalising tendencies and on the perception of cultural differences in values, norms and aims.
Students handle problems of Czech - German stereotypes and cultural standards and are able to use them actively. The course will lead to tolerating cultural and professional differences, difference sensitivity and will help students with better intercultural cooperation.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Active participation in seminars (min 80%). Completion of set tasks, seminar paper on the Czech-German relationship (approx. 5 pages, presentation in seminars). Final test.
