Course content
The introduction - theoretical definition of the thema. The subject of demography- definiton of the discipline, its tradition in Bulgarian context. Contemporary demographic parameters of the South-Slavic countries. The specifics of the demographic situation in Bulgaria. Demography of the national minorities in the South-Slavic countries. The historical perspective of the demographic processes (from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1918) The interwar period from the view of the demographic changes. The Second world war and the demographical changes. The demographical situation of the South-Slavic countries after 1945. The basic questions. The demography of Serbia and Macedonia. The Bosnian war and its reflection in demography. Migration, emigration and pečalbarství. The demographic perspective of the South-Slavic countries. Final summary of the topic.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course Demography of Bulgaria and Balkan is to concretize the demography as a art of social sciences to the area of South-Slavic (Balkan) countries. The course is reduced on the evolution of the basic demographic categories in the 20th century.
Students will gain the overall knowledge of demography, its categories and first of all about the importance for the concrete national society. They will be able to understand the reflection of the historical events on the populacy, they will use the demographic method of statistics and work with the basic data from the population cenzus.
