Course content
Balkan and the Ottoman expansion. Periodization of the Ottoman rule. Balkan and Islam. Balkan and Ottoman issue in the past. Economic failure contrary to cultural welfare. Influences of the Islamic culture in Balkan. Urban influences - welfare od Islamic towns in Balkan. Architectural influences. Cult of water in the Islamic architecture in Balkan. Public utility buildings. Ottoman influences in fine arts. Spiritual culture - literary influences. Language influences of the Turkish language. Balkan and Orient today.

Learning outcomes
The goal of the lectures is to make sense of both social and cultural aspects which are joined with very important and complicated periods of Bulgarian history. The course is focused on the oriental way of life and its reception.
Students should be able to analyse cultural phenomenons and to include them in general terms of Bulgarian history. Their knowledge of cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria is assumed.
