Course content
Brief history of the field as a historical background of the present condition of the archive system in the Czech Republic, the structure of the current state archive net in the Czech Republic. History and development of the most important archive "fonds" in the Czech Republic. Current archival legislation, its brief development after 1945, the last archival law, rights and duties of archives in national archives heritage care. Archival materials, archival "fonds", archival collections, principle of provenance and pertinence. Systems of records registration, NAD, PevA, BACH. Systems of recors management - GINIS, eSpis. Technical equipment of archives and records offices. Records management and electronical documents. Current problems of the archives network.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the field, the fundamental laws, the norms, and the principles, as well as to remind students of the current trends and the historical background of the field and to suggest ways of solving problems. Students will learn the definition of the archives, they will be informed about basic tasks and activities, position of archives in the system of state administration, current archives structure and differences in their powers and the composition of archive bodies.
Students will understand the archives structure, basic archive terminology, legislation and guides. This will eventually help them in their own research activity in individual archives.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation

Each student will present a short paper about some archivist working between 1850-2000. Each student will write a critique of some scientific article or will present a paper about some archival fund.
