Course content
|
A general introduction to the field of ancient archaeology. Chronological and territorial disciplines (from ancient Near East to antique Mediterranean cultures). The Mediterranean. Concise history of the field. Through key sites - the presentation of main cultures of the given period and of their material culture in a broad context, including ideology.

Learning outcomes
|
The goal of this course is to inform students about a century long research of ancient cultures of the Near East and 250 years long research of antique cultures. Students will be presented with the history and culture of nations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Palestine, then with archaeological exploration of pre-classical Greece and then antique Greece and Rome, including some important cultures in their nearest neighbourhood (Etruscs, Scyths, Thracians?).
After passing this course, students will be able to understand the archaeological material of ancient cultures in given areas and to know basic differences between them.
