Course content
|
An outline of the discipline and the beginnings of scientific numismatics. Basic landmarks in the history of monetary circulation. Means of payment and their physical appearance - the technology of manufacture. Reporting function of means of payment. The function of means of payment in monetary circulation. Findings of coins and their importance for historical research. Medals and jettons. Numismatic collections and their presentation. Personalities of Czech, European, and world numismatics.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to introduce students to numismatics as a scientific discipline; and to consider its practical application in basic scientific research and museum presentation.

Written examination, Student performance assessment
Credit is dependent on active participation in lessons; on writing a paper on an assigned topic (submitted during the term); a comprehensive test at the end of the term (it is necessary to achieve at least 80 on this test).
