Course content

At the beginning of the Middle Ages - the rebirth of European intelligence. Europe of the Early Middle Ages and its culture exemplified by northern England. The turn of the millennium - Christian society and its millennium. The image of the world in Medieval art. A battle and a war.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the individual fields of life in the Middle Ages in a practical way, i.e. through reading sources on principle. The sources will cross both the epoch (time) and the continent. Parallels with Central Europe will be made where suitable.
The student will acquire practical skills in working with sources of different pravenance and nature to cover broad territories and typically medieval phenomena.

Written examination
Credit is determined by regular preparation for seminars, an abstract or essay, and a test in an the credit week.
