Course content

History and the present of caring for individuals with sensory and communication disabilities. The individual with sensory and communication disabilities in the system of health and social care and services. Diagnosis of disability. The specifics of the health and social work and the principles of access to persons with sensory and communication disabilities. The importance of a comprehensive (re)habilitation. The use of therapeutic and therapeutic-formative approaches. Of technical aids. Health and social care and special pedagogical education of individuals with sensory and communication disabilities. Social and labour (re)habilitation including social services. The Role of the agencies of supported employment. System access to individuals with dual disabilities (deafblindness). The Role of the non-profit sector. Organizations providing services to the target group. Social services. Quality standards of social services, leisure activities, housing, activation activities. Local, regional and state social policy. The issue of accessibility. Analysis and specific examples of a comprehensive (re)habilitation of persons with sensory and communication disabilities. A visit to a particular provider of social services - a complex processing of information on the health and social work. Presentation of seminar papers and discussion. Specific examples of technical, communication and information barriers.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to continue, in the framework of the curricular relationships, to the already acquired knowledge and skills of the target group of persons with special needs due to sensory, and communication disability as per the syllabus.
Students will become familiar with the specifics of the health and social work with individuals with sensory and communication disabilities, he/ she deepens his knowledge and skills in the field of comprehensive rehabilitation, alternative and augmentative communication, he/ she understands the function of social services and non-profit organizations. Student can apply the standards quality of social services, he prepares a program in the context of leisure activities and animation activities with a focus on individuals with sensory and communication disabilities.

Oral examination, Written examination
The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. Written test or oral exam fulfilment according to course guarantor decision.
