Course content
Sudden conditions in neurology - stroke, epileptic seizure, status epilepticus - etiology, diagnosis, clinical picture, monitoring of basic vital functions, prevention of complications. Current trends in therapy. Sudden conditions in cardiology - acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis, sudden death, syncope, pulmonary embolism - etiology, diagnosis, clinical picture, monitoring of basic vital functions, prevention of complications. Current trends in therapy. Sudden conditions in internal medicine - acute diabetic conditions, intoxication, comatose and shock conditions, liver failure, renal failure, failure of vital functions, septic conditions, status asthmaticus, hyperventilation convulsions, aspiration, asphyxia, anaphylaxis - etiology, diagnosis, clinical picture, monitoring of basic vital functions, prevention of complications. Current trends in therapy. Highly specialized nursing care of patients with selected acute conditions in neurology, monitoring, physical examination by a nurse, risk prevention, nursing plan, education. Highly specialized nursing care of patients with selected acute conditions in cardiology, monitoring, physical examination by a nurse, risk prevention, nursing plan, education. Providing assisted pulmonary ventilation, ventilator operation. Highly specialized nursing care of patients with selected acute conditions in internal medicine, monitoring, physical examination by a nurse, risk prevention, nursing plan, education. Basic procedures for life threatening conditions - asphyxia, unconsciousness, electrical injury, massive bleeding. Basic emergency resuscitation, use of AED, activation of the integrated rescue system. Advanced emergency resuscitation. Emergency resuscitation training on models.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the specifics of working in intensive care units of the internal type.
Students know the most common acute conditions in internal medicine and the used diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including innovations. They are aware of the risks faced by the patient. They are able to apply the acquired knowledge in the nursing process and education of patients and their families.
