Course content
Organization and current issues in paediatrics. Growth and development of the healthy child. Hospitalization of the child. Charter of the hospitalized child's rights. The child's nutrition (breastfeeding, vitamins). Pharmacology in the childhood age. Diseases of the digestive tract. Endocrine diseases and disorders of growth. Diseases of the blood, heart, and blood circulation. Diseases of the muscles, bones, and rheumatic diseases. Diseases of the respiratory tract. Diseases of the kidneys and urinary pathways. Diseases of the nervous system. Disorders of immunity and allergic diseases. Sudden conditions in paediatrics and first aid (accidents and poisoning). Preventive examination in the childhood age, vaccination. Artificial feeding of infants, preparation of food for infants, principles of feeding of children, milk kitchen. Organization of work in the department of paediatrics. The issue of hospitalization of children, nursing documentation, special features of nursing procedures in paediatrics, ensuring safety. Preoperative preparation and postoperative care of children, pain management. Play therapy. Nursing care of children with diseases of the respiratory tract, fever, and cramps. Nursing care of children with diarrhoea, constipation, encopretic regime. Nursing care of children with enuresis and with urinary tract and kidney infection. Nursing care of children with diabetes mellitus.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with basic preventive treatment and care in paediatric medicine.

Prerequisites
Students know the special features of care for the child and his or her individual needs in the different age groups, with an emphasis on the infant. Students know and are able to provide care to the child.

Oral examination, Written examination
