Course content
When you say: Bulgaria. Specifics of the Bulgarian life. Bulgaria and transformations of Balkan towns. Ancient culture in Bulgarian territory. Bulgaria and Byzantine culture. Bulgaria and Islam. Bulgaria - centre or periphery of the Balkan peninsula? Bulgaria and the Turkish issue in the past. The issue od the Bulgarian revival and making of modern national identity. Bulgaria and "balkanization". Migration, emigration and "pečalbarstvo" in the Bulgarian society. Prospekts for Bulgaria.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the lectures is focused on studying historical, cultural, social, geopolitical, geographical and political relations of Bulgarian region. Theoretical and practical topics will develop the knowledge of Bulgarian way of life and the way of life in adjoining areas.
Students should be able to analyse cultural phenomenons and to include them in general terms of Bulgarian history. Their knowledge of cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria is assumed.
