Course content
Dead foetus syndrome. Artificial termination of pregnancy in the 2nd trimester. Embolism in pregnancy. Obstetric haemorrhage. Examination methods in the delivery room. The midwife's care of the labouring woman with breech presentation - practice of breech birth. The midwife's care of the labouring woman during birth by caesarean section. The midwife's care of the labouring woman during forceps and VEX delivery.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with irregularities and complications during childbirth and the postpartum period. The curriculum builds on the presented themes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology subjects.
Students are able to use their theoretical and practical knowledge and skills during the management of an abnormal labour and delivery, during interventions and a general nursing care of the woman's individual needs arising in the course of an abnormal labour and delivery, during labour and delivery concluded by an obstetrical surgery, and during invasive procedures performed in the course of labour and delivery.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the practicum sessions and seminars. Completing assigned written work (development and defence - seminar work, presentation, group work, model nursing plan, educational material, case study). Successful completion of an oral examination.
