Course content
The historical development of social work in the world and in our country. Definition of social work and goals of social work. Overview of approaches in social work. Definition of terms: social work methods and types of intervention in social work. Assistance and supervision in social work and the position of the social worker. The social worker and the worker in social services. Stages of social work, the first contact with the client, and social case history. Key knowledge about the client and the therapeutic conversation, termination of work with the client, and documentation. Definition of social counselling, the importance, and counselling service. Specific types of clients within social counselling. Characteristics of social work with the person, group, and community. Ethical issues in social work. Visit to the Regional Authority of the Pardubice Region, the Department of Social Affairs. Analysis of the regional strategic plan for the development of social services in the Pardubice region. The Social services act. I Inspection and registration of social services. Community planning of social services. Medium-term strategic plan for social services. Characteristics of social work practice with individuals. Characteristics of social work practice with groups - a practice session. Characteristics of social work practice with the community. Community planning of municipality authorities with extended control in the CR. Social work practice with seniors, special features, care and assistance options in governmental and non-governmental facilities. Social work practice with socially vulnerable individuals, types of social threats, and types of social prevention and counselling services. Standards for quality in social services. Institutions in the social sector - state and local administration. Presentations of seminar work and supervision.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with selected concepts, stages, techniques, and approaches in individual and community social work.

Prerequisites
Students know the issues of social work and are able to practically use the basic methods and techniques necessary for specialist nursing practice in the area of internal medicine.

Assessment methods and criteria
Home assignment evaluation

Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 85% attendance at the practicum sessions.
