Versailles peace settlement. The European Powers and the formation of the new states in the Central Europe. The formation of Czechoslovakia, creation of its political system and economic basis. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the political, cultural, and economic development in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic, and the world in the 20th century.
Students will acquire an understanding of various events, personalities, and epochs involved in these developments, as well as an ability to make mutual connections. |

Oral examination
Credit is determined by the reading of at least 15 titles of scholarly literature connected to the history of the 20th century (at least 10 manuscripts; the rest can be longer articles from scholarly presses). At least one of the titles has to be in one of the world languages. |
