Course content

Structure of industry, technology and scientific disciplines. Input technologic factors, technologic changes. Extractive industry, metallurgy and engineering. Power engineering, electrical engineering. Chemical industry. Consumer goods industry. Civil engineering. Transport and communication facilities. Agriculture and food industry. Business systems, wholesale and retail sale. Commodities characteristics, testing and certification. Classification and labelling of commodities. Damages on commodities, protection of consumers.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with the structure of industry and basic technologies of its particular branches. The accent is put on manufacturing technologies, used materials and final product assortment. Special attention is paid to science of commodities in connection with its characteristics, classification, labelling and testing. Students will be familiar with basic technologic knowledge of main industrial branches and acquire general overview of product types and its characteristics. Furthermore, students will be well oriented in evaluation of goods and consumer protection and acquire the knowledge needed for further follow-up courses focused on economics and company operation.
A student will receive an overview of the basic technology industries and the main characteristics of the products. He will be able to use the proper technical and technological terminology. He will be competent in the evaluation of goods and consumer protection. He obtains the necessary knowledge for follow-up training courses focusing on the economy and the operation of the company.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation
The assignment is granted upon completion of the seminar paper on a given topic examining the ability to describe selected technologic issues of given industrial branch and use appropriate terminology. The examination is mostly written in the form of test and examines the ability to master all lectured topics.
