Class mapping into the relational data model. UML, messages and operations, sequence diagram. Data integrity in analysis, design and implementation. Multi-dimension modelling of a data warehouse, fact tables and dimension tables. Transaction processing, transaction, recovery from failure. Centralized and distributed database systems.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Laboratory work
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to deepen theoretical and practical knowledge about database systems and is the follow-up course to the Database systems I.
Students will be able to perform questions using commands of the SQL language, and to map the object-oriented data model into the relational data model. They will understand how to define integrity limitations in all phases of development of the information database system. Furthermore, they will be able to model and design data warehouses as well as understand impacts of transaction processing, and principles of centralized and distributed databases.
Prerequisites

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Didactic test, Discussion

The assignment is granted elaboration of given tasks; there are made public in the system Moodle at the beginning of semester (information about password is available in the system STAG - Study material (studijní materiály)). The examination consists of two parts, written and oral. It examines theoretical knowledge of presented themes and the student ability of practical task elaboration. The examination involves topics of subjects DBS1 as well as DBS2.
