Course content
Characteristics and requirements of multimedia applications. Computer platforms and technologies for multimedia. Multimedia system navigation. Hypertext, hypermedia. Links, bookmarks, selected words. Application structure and creation. Types of author systems. Basics of text usage. Characteristics of sound and its usage, digitalisation. Digital sound, standard MIDI. Characteristics of graphics: vector and raster graphics. Colour models. Graphical digitalisation. Animation and its basic technologies. Video and its usage. Video codex and formats. Multimedia information compression. Strategies for multimedia application development. Case studies.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with the basics of creating multimedia applications and the basic attributes of individual media components.
Students will be able to apply the methods of creating single components, as well as methods of their integration into the final application using author systems.

Written examination, Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment

Graded assignment is granted upon the completion of exercise with a success rate of at least 60 %. Seminar project completion and defence of an independently created program in a web (WWW) and non-web (ToolBook) version.
