Course content
Basic terms, data and its quality, information and its definition, the information system, a brief introduction to essentials of the theory of systems. Information process of public administration. Modelling of processes. Classification of information systems. System integration. Alternatives of information system solving. Life cycle and methodology of information system development. Management projects of information systems. Quality of information systems. Geographic information systems and geo-data (a brief introduction).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to essentials of information systems. Attention is paid to the whole life cycle with the emphasis on the analytic phase and process analysis. Geographic information systems (GIS) and its application are also presented as well as the problems of the e-Government and the contemporary state of the information process of public administration.
Students will be able to apply simple GIS tools for visualization and basic analyses of the spatial data. Furthermore, they will actively participate in projects of implementation of information and communication technologies in both public and commercial sphere.

Basic skills at utilization of PC.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment

The graded assignment is granted upon completion of the following conditions: elaboration of two given tasks, and passing the final written test. The oral examination might also be considered.
