Course content
Museum and its presentation activities. General introduction to the problems of a museum and its presentation activities. Exhibition activities: the phase of exhibition design (planning); creative preparation. The museum exhibition as a special form of visualized mission of collections (examples from museum "exhibition alphabet"). New trends in museum organization of exhibitions and a search for means of visitor's mobilization. Forms and methods of detecting the impact of a museum on the public; the study of visitors and 'non-visitors'. Museum architecture; organization of buildings and their location. Museum architecture from the point of view of historical development and current trends. Museum buildings from the point of view of the functional division of rooms and their equipment. Museum buildings in connection with the infrastructure of the place where they stand. Selected chapters of museum management. Main trends of non-profit organizations management for the 21st century from an organization, from the point of view of museums. The importance and methods of stating the aims (visions) of a museum and the role of the planning process; rules and styles of museum management; the ways of stating the costs. Getting sponsors (the introduction to fundraising methods). Public relations and museums. The museum and the public - the structure of the public and the choice of suitable communication forms. The museum in the digital world - prospects and limits. Safety management and specifics of crisis management. Museums and future prospects. Typology of museums. Network of museums in the Czech Republic and its changes. Problems of country-geography museums in the Czech Republic versus specialized museums. The role of regional museums and the role of municipal museums. The issue of "galleries" as a part of the network of museum institutions.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to introduce students to individual forms and means of presenting museum collections to the public, especially the problems of exhibition activities. They will learn the ways to evaluate the presentation activities of museums and to apply the marketing principle. They will also be introduced to the issue of museum management (or rather non-profit organizations), including public relations and fundraising.
Students will acquire practical knowledge of creating museum presentation programs, and will be able to design museum exhibitions and produce simple documents connected to creative preparation of museum exhibitions in particular; hence, they will be ready to apply suitable methods of evaluating museum presentation programs, design content for suitable propagation and popularization programs for museum activities.
