Database systems as the technology platform company information systems. Data processing, database technology. Architecture of database systems, the relational data model. Approaches towards data modeling. Principles of structural data approach, ER diagrams. Principles of the object modeling, UML. Transformation models of analysis into the relational data model. Normalization of the relational data model. Data demands in database systems, data integrity. Language means, SQL. Transaction systems with operational data and data warehouses.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Laboratory work
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to gain basic theoretical knowledge about database systems with the emphasis on relational systems as well as with structural and object oriented approaches to data modeling.
Students will be able to solve problems of data modelling in terms of the structural and object-oriented approaches. Furthermore, they will understand designing of normalize relations for relational data models. Students will also learn how to apply a designed model within the relational database, and master basic principles of transaction systems with operational data and master basic principles of data warehouses.
Prerequisites
unspecified

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Didactic test, Discussion

The course is available in the system Moodle (information about password is available in the system STAG - Study material (studijní materiály)). The examination consists of two parts, written and oral. It examines theoretical knowledge of presented themes and the student ability of practical task elaboration. The conditions for the examination are made public in the system Stag by way of "Studijní materiály" (Educational materials) at the beginning of semester.
