Course content
Composition poetics. Narration poetics. Poetics of subject and story. Poetics of character. Poetics of spatiality and periodicity. Note: For a detailed layout of film adaptations suitable for seminar work, see "Materiály ke stažení" (Materials to download).

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is regular alternation of film projections with abstracts and discussions. Attention will be paid primarily to the interpretation of selected literary stories (the regular reading of these will be part of the seminar work); furthermore, this course involves analysis of both formal and meaning changes in the given field, changes that are caused by the transformation from literary work to its film adaptation. Individual titles (detailed layout will be introduced at the beginning of the course) should cross various genres and developmental periods of country and world production (though the second part will focus primarily on foreign production).
A graduate of this course will gain conception of possibilities how to interpret literary works by way of monitoring their relations to other area of art - cinematography. In the part II. the gained qualification will concern contacts of world literature and film.

Assessment methods and criteria
Home assignment evaluation, Discussion

Credit is dependent on active participation in projections and seminar debates (only three absences are permitted per term); regular reading of the assigned texts; the oral presentation of a paper and its written version in the form of a seminar paper (5-10 pages in length).
