The course focuses on introduction to the technique of writing short stories in the realm of so called popular literature, namely the genres of detective story, science fiction, fantasy and horror. The students will be informed with the help of chosen works about specific features of the discussed genres (their dominant form, basic thematic circles, model characters, sub-genre variants) and gather information from studying autho-reflexive texts of various authors. The course focuses on practical exercises, focused on phases of creating a text: different techniques of finding a theme, construction of a story and .plot development according to genre schemes, creating dialogues, description of the environment. A wide range of exercises will be used- from simple games to paraphrases of already existing texts and genre variations on known themes to final corrections of ready made text. Students are going to learn working individually, in couples and also in a team.
The students will acquire creative skills, which can later be used in their own writing as well as in other fields of study and their creative potential will thus be reinforced.
